Wild Hunger
by Chloe Neill
Series: Heirs of Chicagoland (#1)
Published by: Tantor Media Inc.
August 14th, 2018
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Format: Audiobook
Source: Library Loan
Rating: 4 Stars

In the first thrilling installment of Chloe Neill's spinoff to the New York Times best-selling Chicagoland Vampires series, a new vampire will find out just how deep blood ties run. As the only vampire child ever born, some believed Elisa Sullivan had all the luck. But the magic that helped bring her into the world left her with a dark secret. Shifter Connor Keene, the only son of North American Central Pack Apex Gabriel Keene, is the only one she trusts with it. But she's a vampire and the daughter of a Master and a Sentinel, and he's prince of the Pack and its future king.
When the assassination of a diplomat brings old feuds to the fore again, Elisa and Connor must choose between love and family, between honor and obligation, before Chicago disappears forever.

What I love about this book is that even though it's set in the Chicagoland Vampires world it has a completely different tone from that series.

Elisa, who is Merit and Ethan's daughter, has been struggling with a secret that only Connor "stupid" Keene knows about.

On top of that there has been a murder and the only suspect doesn't remember killing. Now it's up to her to find the killer before an innocent man pays the price.

I really like this story as it is different from Merit's adventures. There are also some "futuristic" details that kind of threw me but then it is set in like 2030 or so. Still, in Chloe Neill's fashion, I enjoy the heck out of this book.

I cannot wait for the next one and see how Connor and Elise's relationship evolves.

Willa's Beast
by Ruby Dixon
Series: Icehome (#3)
Published by: Author
October 5th, 2018
Genre: Sci-Fi Romance
Format: eBook
Source: Kindle Unlimited
Rating: 4 Stars

     Beast. Creature. Monster.
     Dangerous.
All of these things have been said about Gren.
Willa doesn’t believe it, though. She knows that monsters can sometimes come in appealing packages. She knows that for all of his snarls and fearsome appearance, he’d never hurt her.
And she knows she has to get Gren away from the Icehome camp, because no one will ever see him as a person, not when he attacks all who come close. Not when he’s tied and treated like an animal.
She’s going to save him… or fall in love. Maybe both. Willa doesn’t mind that he’s a beast, as long as he’s her beast.

This is the third book in the Icehome series and it is in the same timeline as the first two books. As Lauren is drifting in the "sea" and Veronica has been kidnapped by her dragon, Willa helps her beast escape.

This book again takes me back to the beginning of the barbarian books when Georgie met Vektal and they were trying to communicate with each other.

It was a little bit funny but most of all it was heartwarming and heartbreaking because Gren didn't understand that he wasn't a slave anymore.

I fell in love with him and I kept praying for this couple to find a way to understand each other even though you know it's obvious that they will end up together.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series but first I have to finish the Ice Planet Barbarians series because the couple from the next book come from this community.

The Whole Package

Always the caretaker, former Marine Reid Griffith wants to help his brother adjust to civilian life…and help other former servicemen. What better way to utilize their brawn, discipline, and charm than a moving company that hires veterans? But although Reid prides himself on being strategic, he certainly doesn’t plan to fall in the spotlight of one brilliant—and beautiful—PR whiz…
PR expert Naomi Starr is determined to bring Vets on the Go! into the spotlight. But when she meets Reid, it might mean breaking her rule to never mix business with pleasure. Especially once she discovers that underneath Reid’s sexy rough-and-tumble exterior is a vulnerable man who just might need what she’s got to give.

Vets on the Go! it's a small fledgling moving company founded by two brothers and a cousin that only hires veterans.

Reid Griffith is the youngest of the two brothers and the one that is in charge with the administrative side of things. You could even say that Vets on the Go! it's Reid's brainchild as he wanted to help his brother sustain a job.

When Reid's brother and another employee stop a burglar and are featured on the news, Naomi Starr, a PR expert decides to offer her services to take Vets on the Go! to the next level.

I loved the story behind the moving company, I loved the characters (although sometimes the main characters were a little bit awkward together) and I loved the diversity of the characters.

There were some elements of the story that I didn't like too, like the "villain" (the story could have done without that little "trouble" in my opinion), and her constant obsession of not getting involved with a "coworker".

Aside from that, I think that it was a really cute story and I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me

Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.
For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn't find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He's asking for the unthinkable.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

Wow, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, where do I begin...

The book starts with this girl Vanessa, who is the assistant/housekeeper of Aiden, also known as the Wall of Winnipeg, wanting to quit because she has accumulated enough money for her to start her own business. She knew from the beginning that this job was not going to be something permanent; that she had a goal.

Then it goes on to say how she started working for him and doing everything for him and what was expected from her. How she, in the beginning, didn't know anything about the job that she was going to do but she was going to make it work because she needed the money and this job paid really good. Everything after that is Aiden, Aiden, Aiden, the Wall of Winnipeg, Aiden, Aiden, the Wall of Winnipeg, blah blah blah.

I made it about a hundred pages into the book and then I DNF'ed it. Aiden was an ass and Vanessa has a very low opinion of herself for having held on to a job that she was not happy with because she needed the money and because Aiden was a cold bastard.

Then after that, for him to have the gall to ask her for a favor even when she kept saying no, no and no? I really don't know how this book can improve so I'm not going to keep reading it. And I seriously do not understand how this book made it to people's top tens of the year and in some cases even the top one.

Since Merit was turned into a vampire, and the protector of Chicago’s Cadogan House, it’s been a wild ride. She and Master vampire Ethan Sullivan have helped make Cadogan’s vampires the strongest in North America, and forged ties with paranormal folk of all breeds and creeds, living or dead…or both.
But now those alliances are about to be tested. A strange and twisted magic has ripped through the North American Central Pack, and Merit’s closest friends are caught in the crosshairs. Gabriel Keene, the Pack Apex, looks to Merit and Ethan for help. But who—or what—could possibly be powerful enough to out-magic a shifter?
Merit is about to go toe to toe, and cold steel to cold heart, to find out.

The supernatural world is at it again, this time with a powerful magic user that is capable of affecting the only supernatural beings that are not easily influenced by magic.

The werewolves are looking to blame someone for the death of their colleagues and since Ethan and Merit are there it is easier to blame them. Gabriel Keene, the alpha Apex, has tasked Merit and Ethan into discovering who is responsible for the magic. They have to do this in order to keep the peace between the werewolves and the vampires.

Again poor Merit has been thrown in the middle of Supernatural problems. She just wants to keep her house and her master safe!

I think Chloe Neill is a genius. She writes a smart and kick-ass heroine that is smart enough to use all her resources and connect all the dots to figure out what the problem is.

I cannot wait to read more about this vampires and see what else is in store for them. I really love Merit and Ethan and I cannot wait to see how that prophecy is going to come true.

Wolf Rising
by Paige Tyler
Series: SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team (#8)
Published by: Sourcebooks Casablanca
October 30th, 2018
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Format: eARC
Source: Publisher (via NetGalley)
Rating: 4 Stars

Werewolf SWAT Officer Jayden Brooks has yet to meet The One—but when he rescues teacher Selena Rosa from a hostage situation at her high school, he knows he’s in trouble. Her scent is irresistible.
There’s a reason for that powerful scent—and it isn’t an expensive perfume. Thanks to the traumatizing events at the school, the werewolf gene flipped on and Selena’s going through the change. Even scarier, she’s on track to become an omega—an out-of-control and violent breed. It’s going to take everything Brooks has if he wants any chance to pull her back from the edge…and ultimately win her heart.

This is the eighth installment of the SWAT series by Paige Tyler and I have to say that I am in love with this books. I first started reading this series because of the name of the series. I found it funny that Paige was able to use the SWAT acronym and give it a completely different definition at the same time that the characters are from a SWAT team. Add to that the fact that when I started reading this series I found that these wolves don't change from being bitten and I was hooked.

This one follows Jayden, the biggest of the teammates and Selena, a teacher on the bad part of town. Like every one of the previous books, you get a before scene where we see the event that made one of the main characters become a werewolf; in this case Jayden. Then you get to understand a little more about the wolves after Selena is threatened by a gangbanger looking to recruit from the students of her class.

With every book, we get deeper into the world of the wolves and we get to discover more things that have been happening behind the scene that even the wolves themselves didn't know about. The way that things the SWAT have been investigating come to light and how that discovery leads to more questions and problems keeps this stories going and gives a fresh canvas for each book is another reason why I love this series so much.

I love the action in this books (this one having the prison scene amongst others) and the shocking realizations and even when I know the outcome of some things the story is written so well that I don't mind. I also like how every story is different and how all the characters come from different places physically, mentally and by circumstance.

Every book has me hooked to it from beginning to end and by the end the next teammate to get their HEA is so well incorporated to the story that you can't wait for the next one and obviously I can't wait for it.
