The Men with the Golden Cuffs

Series: Masters and Mercenaries (#2)

Genre: Erotic Romance

     A woman in danger…
Serena Brooks is a bestselling author of erotic fiction. She knows how to write a happy ending but hasn’t managed to find one of her own. Divorced and alone, she has no one to turn to when a stalker begins to threaten her life. The cops don’t believe her. Her ex-husband thinks she’s making the whole story up. She has no one left to turn to except a pair of hired bodyguards. They promise to guard her body, but no one can protect her heart.
Two men in search of love…
Adam Miles and Jacob Dean are halves of a whole. They’ve spent their entire adult lives searching for the one woman who can handle them both. Adam is the playful, indulgent lover, while Jacob is the possessive, loving Dom. When Serena comes into their lives, Adam is certain that she’s the one. But Jacob’s past comes back to haunt them all. He is suspicious of Serena’s story, and his concerns are driving a wedge between him and Adam. But when the stalker strikes, they will have to come together or lose each other forever…

I have to say that although I enjoyed this story I was a bit disappointed.

Adam and Jake have been partners for a very long time. So long that they don't even need to say words to communicate what they need from the other, just a few looks and gestures say a lot. I liked this brotherly connection since their families are kind of assholes.

Serena as with many a beginning for series like this is curious about the lifestyle and has some strong desires that no one understands until she meets these two men. She needs protection from a stalker and the security firm that is hired assigns them to her.

I have to say it was a very entertaining read and although I kind of figured out who her stalker was (there was a twist in there that I did not expect) I enjoyed and I can't wait to read some of the other characters stories, especially Ian's and Alex/Eve.

What disappointed me was that there was not a lot of the lifestyle included. You have some BDSM aspects and some menage but I wanted more. I needed more! Aside from that, I can't wait to read the next book and see what is in store for these characters next.

Temping the Beast
by Lora Leigh
Series: Breeds (#1)
Published by: Author
September 19th, 2017
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Format: eBook
Source: Kindle Unlimited
Rating: 5 Stars

He’s a genetic experiment. The merging of human and lion DNA his creators call a Breed. And they have no idea just what kind of the creature they brought into being.     Callan Lyons wanted only to be left in peace to protect the small group of Breeds he rescued from a New Mexico lab, but those that created them refuse to stop their continued attempts to re-capture them. And the owner of a small, reputable paper, once a friend of his birth mother’s, now has proof of his existence. Proof that has caught his daughter, Merinus Tyler’s’s fascination and ensured her determination to find him. But once they touch, they’ll become far more than either ever imagined possible.     Man created them, but nature has made them her own. Beginning with Callan, she’ll show the world the folly of playing with the very building blocks of all she protects. And Merinus will learn the folly of tempting the beast…

This novel was recommended by one of my friends who also loves to read. As always I was a bit bored because I did not know what to read. This week was a little busy for me in my work. So I told her that I was looking for something refreshing and did not leave this world. She told me that this series had some 32 books, so I told her to let me start with the first one and then we'll see if I continue with the rest. Hey, I'm not a millionaire to buy many books. The good news is that this book is free for those who have the Kindle Unlimited subscription that I am part of.

I'll leave the link down below for those who are interested in being part of the Kindle Unlimited program. I only pay 9.99 monthly which amounts to 10.84 with taxes but I imagine that this will depend on the area where you are. You have a wide selection of books to choose from and thus do not affect your pocket.

Returning to the book I got off in my kindle and I swear I read it like in 4 hours. Now, you will say how I got 4 hours without children and without a husband because it was my birthday, so that was my gift. Not only I love the story is that it was refreshing. I don't know this series seems a bit like this series by author Laura Dohner called New Species, which I recommend a lot. Well, this series or at least this book I liked a lot. I think that this series was recommended by Mineliz in one of my boredom.

First, we meet Merinus. She is a journalist and the only woman among 7 brothers. Those who have been only daughters with more than two brothers know what the testosterone can do. How about you are overprotected. I remembered my brothers with this story. She is captivated by our hero.

Callan is an experiment - come back to tell you that it looks like Laura's New Species - but I like it because it is a leader and super protects our heroine. Not just me the escape of the installation but could grab and protect some of his people.

Another thing that I like is that they were introducing another story. Which means I have to keep reading the books. They were betrayed by someone close to them, which was a surprise to me. I can not avoid comparing them with Laura's new species, but there are many similarities. I love that this author put this betrayal, other beginnings of other stories and also know they can have babies.

As I said I loved these stories so I'll be a little busy with them, hey they are 32 but I could be wrong and could be more. Definitely will recommend this one. Good job Lora! You will love it as I did.

Shadow and Bone
by Leigh Bardugo
Series: The Grisha Trilogy (#1)
Published by: Henry Holt and Co.
June 5th, 2012
Genre: Fantasy
Format: eBook
Source: Purchased
Rating: 4 Stars

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

From the moment I opened this book, I was sucked into the world of the Grisha and I couldn't put it down. This book was one surprise after another and I have to say that Bardugo knows how to have readers intrigued.

Alina is just your average girl with an unanswered crush on your average boy and they serve on the Kings First Army, she as a mapmaker and her crush and best friend Mal and a tracker. Their kingdom is divided by a blackness that has monsters on it and they need to cross that darkness as silently as possible without seeing their path to make it out alive.

When things go south and Mal's life is on the line, Alina's hidden Grisha powers come out of her and save the rest of the people traveling with them. From there on out she is separated from her only true friend and thrust into a world she has no clue about and no desire to explore without Mal.

I was socked right and left by all the surprises in this story. I would think one thing and it would be revealed as something else. From my opinion on the Darkling to the "priest" to Baghra. I could not have predicted any of that and I just needed to keep reading to see what other surprises were in store for readers.

I could not be more happy with the story and I can't wait to see how all this concludes.

Big Bad Wolf
by Linda Jones
Series: A Faerie Tale Romance (#2)
Published by: Love Spell
February 27th, 1997
Genre: Historical Romance
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Source: Gift
Rating: 4 Stars

MY, WHAT BIG SHOULDERS HE HAD ...
Big and wide and strong, Wolf Trevelyan's shoulders were just right for his powerful physique --- just right to hold a girl. And Molly Kincaid wondered what his arms would feel like wrapped tight around her.
AND A WICKED SMILE ...
Molly knew she should have been scared of the dark stranger when he confronted her on her shortcut through the Maine woods. She had been warned of Wolf's questionable past and sinister ways.
LIPS THE BETTER TO KISS HER WITH ...
But there was something compelling in his gaze, something tantalizing in his touch --- something about Wolf that left Molly willing to throw caution, and her grandmother's concerns, to the wind to see if love wouldn't find the best way home.

I love what Linda Jones has done with all this fairy tale retelling mixed with historical romance. Two of my favorite things together. The retelling of children books with an adult twist and my favorite genre, historical romance.

Molly is on her way to visit her sick grandmother when she comes across a stranger that steps out of the woods. She is drawn to this stranger and feels no fear even when she realizes is Wolf Trevelyan, a man that has a dark past and who no one wants near their innocent female women.

Wolf feels this inexplicable pull to Molly and he needs to have her no matter the cost. What he can't explain is why she doesn't behave like any other woman he knows and why he can't buy her into her bed. Everyone has a price, he just needs to find hers.

I fell in love with this book since the first encounter between Molly and Wolf. The way Wolf was puzzled by Molly, the way Molly treated him in spite of the rumors, the way Wolf kept trying to look for an explanation as to why Molly was different, and the way Molly followed her instincts instead of what people said.

Even their time in New York at which point the story deviated from the Red Ridinghood story was fascinating and engaging and infuriating and so many more things that capture my attention and hold it firmly. I will, of course, be reading more of this stories the next one being Someone's Been Sleeping In My Bed since I was gifted that book too.

Why couldn't Shadow have stayed away?
Rancher Grey Wilson has fought hard to rebuild his life in the ten years since that horrible night she left, the night their love, their families, their whole town was torn apart by tragedy. And he's almost succeeded. But now that Shadow Moran is back in Barren, everything seems to be going wrong. The family ranch his father entrusted to him is struggling. Worse, Shadow still blames him for what happened that night, and Grey's starting to have his own doubts about his innocence. Then Shadow reveals a secret that shakes him to his core…

I am in love with cowboys (at least the ones in books) and when I saw this one on NetGalley I couldn't help myself. I had to give it a go. This is the second book of the Kansas Cowboys miniseries and it can be read as a standalone but it makes you curious about the first book.

Grey has been having troubles with his ranch and with the people of small-town Barren, Kansas because of an accident ten years prior that killed a young man. Even though he was cleared of any wrongdoing he was still blamed for it.

Shadow is the sister of the man that was killed and she was Grey's sweetheart until the shooting. Shortly after the death of her brother Shadow left town and didn't come back for ten years and when she came back was to revealed to Grey some things she's left hidden for so long.

This is like the publisher says a heartwarming story of second chances and forgiveness. But it was a quick read that left me wishing for so much more.

That more that I was looking for includes a better storyline as it was kind of repetitive. Better editing as there were parts where something happens; like Grey taking off his vest; and a paragraph or two later he takes it off again and it is worded the exact same way as the first time you read it.

Other things that bother me where the fact that Shadow and Grey kind of stayed on that time ten years before and sounded young and uncertain and at times annoying.

Nauti Intentions
by Lora Leigh
Series: Nauti (#4)
Published by: Berkley Sensations
April 7th, 2009
Genre: Erotic Romance
Format: eBook
Source: Purchased
Rating: 4 Stars

Since he saw Janey Mackay taking a dip in her bikini, Major Alex Jansen has had to quell the fire she ignites in him. Even touching her would mean death at the hands of the Mackay men. Until now, the girl of his dreams-and fantasies-has lived in a vacuum of affection, shying away from the danger she thinks men represent. Alex sets out to prove her wrong, with his torturously slow caresses.
Everyone thinks Janey's safe now, with her abusers dead. But when someone starts leaving spine chilling notes, Alex won't rest until she's completely safe. And completely his-body and soul...

It’s been a while since I’ve read this series but is as good as I remember. Lora Leigh is one of my top 5 Erotic Romance authors and I love that I still have books from her to look forward to.

This book takes place six months after the last one. At the end of book three Natches, the hero saved his sister Janey Mackay from their psycho dad and aunt after discovering they were part of a domestic terrorist cell. After this events, Janey is been threatened by a stalker how wants the daughter of a traitor gone from Somerset.

One of Janey’s cousins approaches Alex, a friend of the family, to help him tell her brother about it since Janey made him swear not to tell her family. Since Alex has been lusting after Janey since she was 17 he uses the opportunity to get near Janey and finally get her in bed.

What I like about Lora Leigh is that even though there is lots of sex is the story there is a story. There is danger, an antagonist, and all that good stuff that give substance to a book. To have readers entertained and not just have the monotony of reading the same thing happening but in different places.

The only thing that made me mad was the fact that Alex’s and Janey’s 14 years gap was such a big point of the story. I don’t mind the old man young woman trope but for some reason, it bothered me in this story. Janey and Alex made such a cute couple that every time the age thing was brought up it just made me go off the rocker.

But no matter what I still loved the book and can’t wait to read the next one.

Once upon a time, Arthur was king…
When Nimue met Merlin in her role as Lady of the Lake, she couldn’t resist the forbidden passion. She’s been running from the consequences since. Now called Illianna, she meets Simon, her lover reborn, and the dangers of the past are still chasing them. Is it their destiny to find love or to relive tragedy?
A steamy story of Merlin and the Lady of the Lake, Her Favorite Mistake will leave you wanting more Hot Fae Knights!

Disclaimer:

This copy was provided via NetGalley for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of it or the content of my review.

This is an interesting retelling of some Arthurian characters. Lina Greyce gives us a new and sexy perspective of the character of Merlin and Nimue.

Nimue is a fae charged with the task of keeping Excalibur safe until that time when the rightful king, the one king that will help magic in the world can claim it. Merlin goes to seek the sword because he has found the king of the fae. From there Nimue and Merlin make one mistake after another.

It is in present times where Nimue, now Illiana, gets the opportunity to make amends were she failed Merlin in the past. Simon, Merlin reincarnated feels a pull the Illiana even if he has no idea why but he is more than willing to see where it all goes. More so as he sees how well Illiana responds to his darker side.

This story takes you back and forth between what happened to Merlin and Nimue in the past and what is happening with them in the present. Even with all the sexy parts the author was able to put just the right amount of story in between as not to overwhelm the story with sexual content.

I will definitively be looking forward to the next book in this series. I cannot wait to see what Lina Greyce comes up with.
