Merit, Chicago's newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit.
Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene - and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.
Merit must accept the assignment even though she knows that she'll probably regret it. And she's not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She'll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals - not least between her and a certain centuries-old green-eyed Master vampire.

So we are back with Merit and all the drama surrounding her and her house. This time the wolves are involved and she has to figure out who is after one of the pack Alphas.

In the previous book, Ethan offered Keene the services of Merit to provide security and of course it is not an "in and out" job. There is an attack on a bar where all the Alpha's are gathered and Merit saves the life of one of the pack and so Gabriel (and some of the pack) are willing to try and at the very least tolerate the vampires. There is, after all, a lot of bad blood between the two races.

Merit and Ethan's relationship evolves and I just want to clobber him. There are some things that can be sacrificed in the name of an alliance but there are others that you shouldn't even consider and Ethan is at the moment on my blacklist. Merit better not bent quickly. He needs to grovel!

With every book, this series keeps getting better and I can't wait to get into the next one.
